Security awareness increases
Following the horrific attack on Monday night at the Manchester Arena, the UK’s terrorism threat level was raised to its highest, CRITICAL. Meaning an attack is imminent. Although it has now been reduced to SEVERE, this still means an attack is highly likely.
Police and Armed Forces are patrolling city centres and event venues, and everyone is being warned to be vigilant.
Many companies have been reviewing their security requirements over the last few days, updating risk assessments and increasing numbers to give staff and customers extra reassurance.
For those in the security industry the increase in threat level is especially important. Security guards work in busy locations, hotels, sporting events, music concerts, office buildings, and although they should already be alert to possible threats security companies are being advised to review and refresh training.
The UK government provides training, in the forms of Project Griffin and Project Argus, free courses which they recommend security guards participate in. There is also advice through the National Counter Terrorism Security Office about what the public (and security teams) should do.
